Origins of the name

Originally, the name of the town was Santa Maria d’Ogliastro but it was changed in 1882. In fact, Vincenzo Beccadelli of Bologna had sold his fief to the Baron of Tumminii, Marco Mancini, asking that it be given the name of Bolognetta in the event that a municipality would be formed on it.

“U Pignu”

The town rises on the slopes of a range of hills. The territory is crossed by  Milicia river, which originates in the nearby Bosco Ficuzza. Right in these woods is U pignu, a century-old tree that has become a symbol to the inhabitants.
